Waiotapu

There have been many projects carried out at Waiotapu, mainly focused on wilding pine and weed control and/or eradication with others focused on restoration, enhancement or research. Below are some examples of the project work being undertaken at Waiotapu

Waiotapu Weed Control

A collaborative approach between the Runanga, DOC and Timberlands. WRA funded the Waiotapu Reserve Weed Management Plan and wilding pine and exotic weed control for 5 years

Twin Streams

In 2012 the Runanga partnered with DOC, the Te Arawa River Iwi Trust and Reporoa College to enhance the banks of the popular swimming area, Twin Streams (also known to the local community as Hot and Cold). This work was needed to minimise the damage being caused by foot traffic as they accessed the streams. Fences, paths and steps were installed and the Runanga planted native seedlings and installed signage sharing our history of the area and guidelines on how to manage and respect this unique taonga.
